About me

My name is Alex and I am 24 years old. I am an artist. This is my website.

I graduated from the visual arts program of Breiðholt Collage in 2020.

I founded the Gallery in Breiðholt Collage, called Gallerí Gubb when I was a student there. I was the head of the Gallery for one year and we put on a ton of cool exhibitions. The gallery is still in operation today.

I then completed a year in fine arts at the Iceland Academy of the Arts, 2020-2021.

I have also attended many courses and participated in various workshops. For example in experimental filmmaking, creative writing and carpentry.

I have been a part of many exhibitions, I've held two solo exhibitions.

I have won several awards. I won Unglist's Art Marathon in both 2016 and 2018. it's a visual art competition. You are handed a canvas and get 48 hours to make an art work out of it. Very fun! I also won the Christmas card competition of Breiðholt Collage in 2018.

About My Works

I like to paint paintings, draw drawings, create cartoons, shortfilms and video artworks, sculptures and installations, sew clothes and costumes, knit, crochet, program websites, write stories and poems, take pictures, manipulate images, design and build things.

In my art work the topic is often feelings and experiences, mine and others, thoughts, gender, sexuality, socialization, culture, violence, oppression, relationships, friendship, communication and beauty. What it's like to be me.
I think one of the most important role of art is to connect people together and strengthen us, to show solidarity against oppression and violence. Show something true, something that lets someone know they are not alone or draw attention to something. I also think a lot about colors, shapes, composition. Lightness and weight and how different textures work together to create something cool and exciting. Humor and joy also often appear in my works.

You are welcome to contact me! It would be fun to hear from you.
